I was living in Laguna Beach at the time. I knew this promoter that would book these theaters in Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano, and San Onofre. He had booked Chuck Berry for six shows.
Chuck would normally travel with his bass player and pick up a local band for each of his gigs. After playing the first two shows Chuck asked me to play the other four gigs with him. It was an honor to play with a legend that even top musicians never get a chance to do.
I had just finished a solo and a local newspaper photographer snapped the pic above of Chuck giving my props to the audience.
